Q. What is a Lean Living workout?
Our workouts are just like working out with a personal trainer in a gym or studio. You have the same interactive, personalized experience but from the comfort of your home, office, hotel room or wherever works for you. All you need is a laptop, internet connection and a little space.
Q. How long are the workouts?
All fitness segments are only 8 minutes long. However, we would always encourage if you had the extra time to do several workouts in a row. Fitness is accumulative –it all adds up.
Q. What type of fitness segments are featured in the Lean Living workout ?
I believe in the optimum program in the least amount of time. So, that’s why we keep you moving through a series of calculated exercises that feature resistance training fused with constant movement. You will focus on different body parts each time you workout with us.
Q. What fitness equipment do I need?
Depending on your fitness level, we encourage small hand held weights or resistance bands. For women, you may need 5, 8 or 10 pound hand held weights. For guys, you will need 10 to 15 pounds. Some days, you’ll need a chair for assistance. You will also need a willing attitude to break out in a sweat !
Q. Where should I do the workout?
You can do a workout wherever you can make enough space to back away from your computer 6-7 feet and extend your arms out. We have members that join in from their living room, bedroom, garage, basement, office, conference room, hotel room, backyard, local park. You name it!
Q. Can I do these workouts everyday ?
Yes-we encourage it. The way the program is developed, the workouts vary from day to day to ensure muscle confusion. No workout is ever the same.
Q. What is an e-trainer?
Your e-trainer is your lifeline to Lean Living. You will communicate with your e-trainer on a regular basis, so that he/she can adjust your program, in order to reach your goals. All of the Lean Living trainers are highly educated fitness professionals, with degrees and/or certifications from the top institutions in fitness.
Q. Is my trainer a real person?
YES! All our trainers are real certified experts and real flesh and blood people. Your real e-trainer helps you stick with your plan and answers your questions. Not some robo-system or call center — just you and your real dedicated expert — working towards your real goals.
Q. Who are the trainers?
The Lean Living Training Team is a community of some of the best fitness professionals from around the country. Each trainer has at least one top-level certification in their field. To join the team, trainers go through a training process to ensure that they meet our strict guidelines and expectations.
Q. Where are the trainers located?
Our E trainers are all around the United States — from Florida to Texas to New York to California. Our geographically dispersed team allows for a variety of available training times due to differing time zones.
Q. What are your hours, and how long should it take for me to get a response to my questions?
The Lean Living E-trainers are available Monday-Friday 8 am -8 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST), and you can expect an email response to general questions within 24 hours (M-F).
Q. What if the workouts are too strenuous or too easy for me?
There are ways to modify each workout to make them more advanced or less challenging. Ask your e-trainer for assistance.
Q. Do I need to do any cardio workouts ?
Although it’s not mandatory -We encourage ANY extra activity you can do outside of Lean Living. This will only enhance and expedite your results.
Q. Where can I find descriptions for all of the exercises?
We offer a Lean Living Perfect Form page with over 30 exercises performed with perfect form. Many of these exercises will be in the videos you receive.
Q. What if I can’t do a certain type of exercise ?
Listen to your body. You should never put yourself at risk for any injury. Go at your own pace-build yourself into the program. If the exercise seems too difficult –ease off and wait until the next segment of exercises.
Q. What do I do if I don’t like a particular Lean Living fitness segment ?
We archive each workout for you. You are certainly more than welcome to go back to a particular day that you enjoyed and repeat that segment. We try to give you a variety of fitness segments to always shock your body and create muscle confusion.
Q. Are the videos accessible at any time of day?
Yes- you will have access to all the videos once you are a member. It doesn’t matter if you workout during the morning, afternoon or evening …as long as you’re consistent.
Q. How often can I watch them?
You can view each video as many times as you would like.
Q. When do they expire? (Does the new one override the previous day’s)?
No. Each fitness video has no expiration date –you can view these videos in any order at any time.
Q. What is the suggested age to participate in the program?
Note: everyone under the age of 18 must provide the approval of a parent or legal guardian.
Q. How long should I remain on the program?
We believe in creating a healthy, fit, and strong body. Helpful Tip: It takes 13 weeks to develop a new healthy habit; and another 13 weeks to reinforce it and make lifelong healthy habits. We suggest a commitment of a minimum of 26 weeks. Many members choose a 52 week program finding it beneficial to reinforce their weight loss and fitness success.
Q. How quickly will I see results?
When following the plan you can expect to see and feel results by the end of your first week. The more weight you have to lose-- the more weight you can expect to lose in the 1st week. Be true to yourself, set a realistic expectation of 1 to 2 pounds per week, keep track of everything you eat, add fitness activities into your life and keep track of your fitness to enhance optimum results. However, as you start putting on lean muscle –the scale may be very deceiving. We believe your best gauge for success is the way that your clothes fit.
Q. Is the program good for people who want to maintain or gain weight?
Yes -our plan is excellent if you prefer to gain weight or maintain your existing weight in a healthy manner. You will adjust the calories depending on the results you want to achieve.
Q. What equipment do I need to do the Lean Living Workouts?
Our workouts can be done in a small space with small hand held weights, an exercise ball, a chair… and your own body as resistance.
Q. Are the Lean Living Workouts for men or women?
Unfortunately, it’s a very common myth that men and women should do gender-specific workouts. It’s simply not true. The Lean Living Workouts are based on full-body, functional training that benefits men and women differently. Why is that?
Because a man’s body chemistry is different from a woman’s. It’s really as simple as that. While both men and women will burn massive calories and boost their energy, men will build more muscle and get lean while women will reduce cellulite and get slim & toned.
Many women are afraid that if they lift weights they’re going to bulk up. I can tell you from years of training all my clients- nothing could be further from the truth. When women start lifting a little heavier and performing full body workouts, the result is toned muscles that look sexy - not bulky!
Q. Am I too out of shape to do the Workouts?
Not to worry. If you were physically fit in the past, but have recently let yourself go, you can do the program as long as you start out easy and slowly build your strength and endurance back up—go at your own pace. The workouts are completely scalable to your current fitness level. You can decrease (or increase) the intensity level of each workout so you can progress at a pace that’s right for you.
Q. Am I too old to do the Lean Living Workouts?
There’s no such thing as being too old! The Workout program is based on the principle that fitness is based on intensity rather than duration (quality over quantity). So, being able to give your best effort is the key to getting the most out of the program.
The great thing about intensity is that it can be increased or decreased based on your current fitness level. Even though your 100% effort may not be the same as someone else’s, the positive effects are the same. That means by doing the program to the best of your abilities, you’ll be able to burn more fat and increase your fitness level - no matter your age.
There are people in their 70’s and 80’s who have done this program. The most important thing to keep in mind is that you should scale the program according to your own fitness level. Everything in the program is scalable from the exercises, load, and speed…it can all be adjusted to fit your abilities so you can do the program at your own pace.
Q. What if I have arthritis?
From my experience, whether your arthritis prevents you from participating in the program or not, depends on the extent of your arthritis. If your arthritis is moderate and you’re able to perform fundamental movements such as squats, lunges, pressing and pulling exercises without much discomfort, you should be able to do the program.
Q. Can I do the Workouts if I have bad shoulders?
From my experience, whether your shoulder injury prevents you from participating in the program or not, depends on the extent of your injury. The Workouts do involve overhead pushing and pulling movements which can irritate an injured shoulder. If you’re able to perform these movements without much pain or discomfort, you should be able to do the program.
If, however, you cannot perform any overhead pushing or pulling movements without experiencing any pain or discomfort, I would not recommend the program for you at this time.
Q. Can I do the Lean Living Workouts if I have a bad back?
Back problems can be complicated with a huge range of variables to consider. If you’ve been given the go ahead by your medical doctor to exercise, there a few things you should consider before embarking on our plan; How bad is your back problem, how long have you had it, and how active are you?
The type and severity of your back problem will determine whether or not you’re fit to participate in the program. The Workouts are based on short, low-intensity workouts that utilize full-body exercises using both your own bodyweight as well as free weights (e.g.dumbbells). The exercises include many fundamental movements such as squatting, lunging, overhead press-ups, etc… If any of these movements cause pain and discomfort to your back, I wouldn’t recommend participating in the program.
If your back problem is chronic in nature, but is manageable, you should be able to do the program. However, I would recommend starting slow and easy to see how your back feels as you progress with the program. As you get more comfortable with the workouts, you can gradually increase your intensity and effort level in accordance to the health of your back.
Q. Can I do the Workouts if I have knee problems?
From my experience, whether your knee issues will prevent you from participating in the program or not, really depends on the extent of your knee problem. Keep in mind that the program is based on functional, full-body exercises that involve movements such as squats, lunges, and cardio movements which are low impact.
Even though the cardio movements can be modified or substituted with different exercises, fundamental movements like squatting and lunging cannot be eliminated or substituted in the program. However, one modification that can be done to these movements is to reduce your range of motion, which can help take some pressure off your knees. For example, if you can’t squat further than 90 degrees, only go down as far as your knees will allow without pain or discomfort. If this slight adjustment is enough for you to be able squat and lunge without pain, you should be able to perform the workouts (along with substitution exercises that we will recommend) and complete the program.
I’ve had many people with knee problems that have not only been able to complete the program successfully, but have found that the program really helped strengthen their knees and reduced their knee pain as a result.
Q. Can I do the Workouts if I am obese?
If you’re obese, some of the exercises might be to strenuous . However, you can modify them to your comfort level. Keep in mind –your fork and spoon are your best pieces of fitness equipment. Concentrate on getting in some movement—but really focus in on your nutritional strategies for success –found in our Daily Victories videos.
If you’re overweight (but not obese) and have been struggling to drop the extra pounds, tried other programs and plateaued, or experienced the ups and downs of yo-yo weight-loss, these Workouts will get you on the fast-track to a leaner, stronger, fitter you.
Q. Can I do the Lean Living Workouts while I’m pregnant?
You should be able to do these workouts during your first trimester as long as you get the okay from your doctor. If the workout is challenging than you may want to lower the intensity of the workouts while you’re expecting. The program is very easy to scale and we show you how you can decrease your intensity so you don’t over do it. Since every pregnancy is a little different, I recommend talking to your doctor before you begin the program just to make sure it’s safe for you to do the exercises.
Q. Do I need to purchase any special or expensive foods?
NEVER, because Lean Living is a lifestyle not a diet there are no special, frozen, prepackaged, processed or expensive foods needed. The program is simple enough to become a healthy habit and fit into your lifestyle and busiest schedule to further ensure your success.
Q. Do I get a customized nutrition plan?
We believe in portion control. Eating foods that you normally like to eat …only a little less. We will have menus for you to follow –and we will give you serving sizes, ounces, and what we recommend with each meal. It is impossible to fully customize it to each member –but these guidelines will assist you in reaching your goals. We want to see how your body responds, and keep you fed and full of energy for your workouts!
Q. I’ve signed up and created a password. What do I do next?
